Start with the process window
Temperature, chemistry, abrasion, and the order of operations should define the shortlist before you compare part families. Powder coating, anodizing, plating, and refinish work can use similar looking products but need different material decisions.
Separate hole masking from protrusion masking
Plugs and caps solve different geometry problems. Buying them under one mixed label usually creates confusion on the shop floor, especially when lines are running mixed parts and reusable silicone kits.
Treat converted parts as process tools
Films, dots, labels, and die-cut shapes are not secondary add-ons. They are conversion tools that help standardize repetitive keep-out zones, support traceability, and reduce manual cut-and-apply variation.
